Life Progress in the Past Four Months

During summer break, I thought I could come back to my weekly blog update schedule.  It turns out; however, that I have not been able to do it in the past four months.  Mark often sits next to me, opens his laptop, goes to this blog, and says: there has been no update.  Oh well.  What happened in the past four months?

1. Changed my relationship status to married.  Mark and I had a court wedding on August 8th, and our reception the next day.  Because I didn't have time to take care of the wedding before my qualify exam, wedding planning and preparation became the top priority in the summer.  This wedding makes me realize the difference between a US and a Taiwanese wedding, and how costly it can be.  Maybe I will share my experience in the future.

2. After the wedding Mark and I took my parents travelled around Michigan for about 10 days.  We visited all the major tourist spots, even the upper peninsula.  Mom and Dad enjoyed all the beautiful stunning scenery.  Hopefully I have time to share our Michigan journey here.

3. I had long distance drive more frequently than usual since the wedding was out of state for both of us and my parents came to visit.  I also gained some unique unpleasant experiences.  I will have to write another entry about my story.

4. My advisor thought that my second year paper can be submitted to a journal, so we had spent all summer revising the model.  The work hasn't finished yet, but is coming to an end.

5. In addition to attending the weekly summer seminar in my department, I also attended an academic writing class for PhD students, which was offered by College of Business.  Even though I was reluctant to attend the class, I learned some great writing strategies.  In the end, I was very grateful with the opportunity.

6. Mark and I attended a wedding in Cleveland, OH, as a married couple for the first time.  It was our most relaxing trip ever since we came back from Taiwan at the beginning of this year.  Unfortunately, we could only stay there for less than 24 hours.  No one had ever recommended visiting Cleveland while I lived in Ohio.  However, Cleveland surpassed our expectations and we had a really great time!

7. And then, it was August, and the semester started.  Life now is consumed with studying, teaching, and researching - a busy PhD life as usual.

Due to my friend's invitation, I went to Zumba class once per week since last semester, and gradulatly developd the workout habit.  In the past few weeks I even could exercised twice per week. This is a huge and proud progress to someone who never exercised in Taiwan.  I also put more effort in research now.  However, once I focus on research, I don't have much interest in cooking.  Is it suggesting that I can just choose either my lab or my kitchen to be where my career happens?
