2013年10月生活紀錄/Life in October 2013

秋天是豐收的季節,我的十月也好豐富!
Fall is a season of mellow fruitfulness, so is my October!

我沒吃過正統的猶太辮子麵包,不過看到想試的食譜就做了。麵團和之前做吐司的經驗很不同,很擔心會失敗,也不知道成品到底口感對不對。應該算是成功,不過蛋香味好濃讓我感到有點膩。
I've never had real Challah bread, but I decided to make one since I found a recipe that seemed easy.  The dough felt different from my other bread-making experience, and I was worried that it would fail.  I also didn't bother to braid it.  It turns out to be successful, although I am not sure if the texture or the taste is correct.  The bread is dense and tasty, but a bit too rich to my taste.
   

每次去超市買蔥一次就得買一把,我總是只用了一根,剩下的就在冰箱腐壞了。後來發現只要有水和陽光,蔥就能長,乾脆自己來種吧!
I hate buying green onions from grocery stores.  Usually I just use one stalk out of a bunch, and the rest of them is rotten in my refrigerator.  Then I found out that it doesn't take much to grow green onions - all you need is just water and sunlight.  Well, it's time to grow green onions by myself.


原來蔓越莓長這個樣子!口感非常奇妙—表皮稍硬,不過輕咬就可以輕易地吃下肚。味道不甜,略帶澀味。
So cranberries are like this!  The texture is very different - a bit hard outside, but is easy to break and eat.  They are not sweet but tart.


巧克力碎片燕麥餅乾是我常做的餅乾之一。
Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies is one of the cookies that I frequently make.


既然新鮮蔓越莓不討喜,那麼來試試蔓越莓冰沙吧!
Maybe cranberry smoothie is a better way than having fresh cranberries?


朋友去幫忙摘蘋果,回來給了我23顆!一個人要怎麼解決這些蘋果啊?
My friend gave my 23 home grown apples!  How am I going to use up all the apples?


蘋果料理第一彈:蘋果蛋糕。我還是愛香蕉蛋糕。
Apple recipe no. 1: apple bread.  Well, banana bread is still my favorite.

我特愛胡蘿蔔、薑和柳橙汁的組合。加點西洋芹也不錯。
I love carrot, ginger and orange juice.  It is also tasty with celery.

幸福的週末很快就結束了。馬克回密西根當天做了豐盛的美式早餐。
Soon it's time for Mark to go back to Michigan.  A hearty breakfast provides energy for the road.

久違的台灣牛肉麵!連吃了三頓都不膩,還想再來三頓!
Yes, Taiwanese beef noodles!  I had it three meals straight already, and I can have three meals more!


朋友給了芒果和番茄。好久沒吃芒果啦!
Mangos and tomatoes from my friend.  Haven't had mangos for a long time.


來米國三年了,到現在還是沒機會刻南瓜。不過鄰居刻了這顆放在公寓門口好可愛,好像憤怒鳥裡面的豬豬。
I have had the chance for pumpkin carving ever since I came to the US.  Find this cute pumpkin in front of the door of my apartment building.  It looks like the the pigs in angry bird.


來自西雅圖的美味小餅乾剛好是晚上唸書的良伴。



小鎮新開一家珍珠奶茶店,想念台灣味時可以解解饞。
A new bubble tea shop just opened.  Something close to the taste of Taiwan.

Apple recipe no. 4: apple banana smoothie.  And the Chinese buns that I haven't had for a long time.


秋末最後美好的陽光,和舊議會大樓。
The wonderful beautiful sunlight at the end of fall, and the old capitol building.
